Santa will pay a special whistle-stop visit to Carrick-on-Suir on Saturday, December 3 to officially turn on the town centre’s Christmas light.
Carrick-on-Suir River Rescue will once again give Santa the VIP treatment and transport him in one of its rescue boats to Main Street to switch on the lights outside the Carraig Hotel between 4.30pm and 5pm.
Children and their families are welcome to gather on Main Street to see Santa and witness the town centre’s nightsky dazzle with fairy lights to mark the start of the Christmas season.
Carrick-on-Suir Brass Band will perform festive carols and tunes for the crowd at the Christmas lights ceremony.
Seamus Campbell of Carrick-on-Suir Business Association said the Christmas lights erected on the town centre’s main streets, Dillon Bridge and Old Bridge were funded entirely this year by the Business Association’s members.
Tipperary County Council is covering the energy cost of the lights over the Christmas season.
He thanked COSBA’s membership of up to 60 shops and businesses for their investment in the town centre Christmas lights and thanked the council for covering the electricity costs.
The hours the town’s Christmas lights will be on will be reduced this year to save energy costs. The lights will brighten up the town centre until January 6.
Mr Campbell noted that 90% of Carrick-on-Suir’s Christmas lights are LED lights, which means they are the most energy cost-effective available. This was thanks to investment by the local business community in previous years.
Mr Campbell appealed to people from Carrick-on-Suir and surrounding communities to shop locally this Christmas.
He pointed out that the Carrick-on-Suir Voucher is an ideal Christmas gift for local people to give family and friends and employers to give to staff.
They also ensure that Christmas spending directly benefits local businesses.
The vouchers allow the owner to purchase goods, food or services in about 30 stores and businesses in Carrick-on-Suir and its hinterland. The vouchers can be purchased from Carrick-on-Suir Credit Union.
