Tipperary is on the verge of significant shifts in its political landscape as six current councillors have announced they will not be seeking re-election in the upcoming Local Elections on June 7.
Tipperary will see a total of 70 candidates competing for 40 seats across eight electoral areas: Cahir, Carrick-on-Suir, Cashel-Tipperary, Clonmel, Nenagh, Newport, Roscrea-Templemore, and Thurles.

This time around there will be six familiar names missing from the ballot paper as they have decided not to put their names forward.
The six include three former chairmen of the local authority, Seamus Hanafin, Michael Fitzgerald and the outgoing chairman Ger Darcy. It also includes former TD Noel Coonan and councillors John “Rocky” McGrath and Hughie McGrath.
