These were fantastic results and well done to all who ran.
NEWCASTLE 5K
The Newcastle 5k was held on Sunday. We had five athletes competing. First home for the club with a superb run was 6th Dymphna Ryan 17:36 who was the first woman. Well done to Dymphna, who is performing exceptionally well.

INDOOR AAI GAMES
The Indoor AAI Games were held on Sunday last in Athlone. Kevin Moore competed in the Men’s Heat 1 3,000m in a fast time of 8:29.13, placing eighth. It’s great to see Kevin doing so well amongst some of the best athletes in the country.
TRAINING - ADULTS
Fit4Life training is held every Monday and Thursday at 7pm at the Dundrum Community Hall track. It’s suitable for all adults - walkers, joggers or runners. Similar style to Couch25k. The Couch25k programme will start on Monday February 6. This training is still suitable for those who can already run 5k and will improve your speed. It’s perfect to get out in a group, which makes exercise so much easier.
Every Tuesday a speed session is held in Canon Recreation Centre track in Tipp Town at 7pm by Dymphna Ryan. These sessions are that bit harder and for a runner who has been training quite a bit. They’re perfect for getting those times down in races. Derek Breen, who attends these sessions, got a 5k PB last week at the Newcastle 5k and dipped well under 20 mins for the first time.
Saturday and Sunday mornings at 10am at the Duck Pond, Marlbog will be for group slow and/or long runs. The more the merrier for these as then people at all levels will have company. Walk, jog or run again. There is a 3km and 2km loop available at the Duck Pond so it can be varied to suit what the person wants to do.
