Thurles students mark Holocaust Memorial Day

Ursuline Secondary School in Thurles school has ‘very good leadership’ - WSE

Ursuline Secondary School, Thurles

Thanks to Ms Whelan who put together a display and PowerPoint presentation for Holocaust Memorial Day on Friday, January 27, 2023.

Artistic TY student, Sarah O’Gorman, painted a beautiful canvas of yellow crocuses to symbolise the yellow stars of David that Jews living in Nazi occupied lands were forced to wear as a badge of discrimination.

Students watched the PowerPoint in classes and were encouraged to leave a stone in front of Sarah’s painting in remembrance of the six million ordinary men, women and children who died in the Holocaust.

Leaving stones at grave sides is a Jewish tradition and may be linked to the idea that although a person dies the memory of them lives on.
