A total of €75,000 has been announced for the Thurles Inner Relief Road
Almost €34m has been announced by the Government this Tuesday for regional and rural roads throughout Tipperary under the regional and local roads programme.
The funding has been welcomed by local Fianna Fáil TD Jackie Cahill.
The funding of €33,532,399 includes €750,000 for the R498 Latteragh Upgrade (Thurles – Nenagh Road); €450,000 for the R503/R497 Kilcommon Junction and €75,000 for the Thurles Inner Relief Road.
"This investment will allow us to repair, strengthen and maintain our roads across the region, ensuring they are fit for purpose,” Deputy Cahill said.
“The additional funding for the Thurles Inner Relief Road will progress the design stage of the project further which is very important to the local area. It is on top of €30,000 last year for the consultancy phase," he said.
Deputy Cahill said that the Government was dedicating resources towards initiatives such as road repair, bridge rehabilitation, road safety measures, community engagement, drainage improvements, and climate change adaptation.
“These roads are imperative for children getting to school and people getting to work safely. Rural regeneration is a key priority for Fianna Fáil in Government and this investment programme for 2023 is further evidence of this," said the Thurles TD.
Deputy Cahill said that the regional and local roads programme was crucial for the economy and communities in Ireland.
With 94,000 kilometres of regional and local roads, making up 94% of the country's roads, it is important to maintain and improve these roads for the safety and well-being of the public.
These roads carry about 55% of all the traffic and for many local businesses, these roads are the only access to their customers, he said.
