Sadness at Clonmel Golf Club at passing of lady who served as secretary, captain and president

Matthew Buckley, Junior Player of the Year 2022 at Clonmel Golf Club, accepted the cup from Timmy O’Dwyer

Condolences

It is with sadness that we note the passing of Mrs. Mary Lynch of Irishtown, Clonmel.

Mary was the Secretary of Clonmel Golf Club for a number of years and thank her for her service to Club.

Mary was also Lady Captain in 1991 and Lady President in 1995 and her contribution to the club was invaluable.

We wish to express our sympathies to her son John Lynch and his wife Aisling Kilroy who are members of the club and to her extended family and friends.

May she rest in peace.

Men’s Notes
Results
The Dermot Prendergast and Kevin O’Donnell uncle and nephew partnership teamed up well to have 41pts in the “Champers Scramble'' on week 7 of the CYP! Kevin had 12 Pts in total last week, well played Kevin. Our gratitude as always to the sponsors Maher’s Londis on the Cashel Road.

The Paul Tobin Blue Steaks Winter Medal
John Byrne marched home in “The Paul Tobin Winter medal blue steaks” with a 68 nett. John led the parade of nearly 70 entries turned up for the first of the blue tees winter medal, a very positive start to the golfing calendar. Just rummaging through the cards with roughly 10 to 15 visitors.
Overall Winner: John Byrne (68 nett)
Category + to 5 winner: Tom Duggan (79)
Category 5.5 to 10.5 winner: Gavin O’Halloran (79) Carrick-on-Suir
Category 10.6 to 17.4 Winner: Peter Whelan (74) Lismore
17.5 & Over Winner: Cillian O’Donnell (74).

CYP Leader Board
The “Renaissance Man” Dessie Gunne (21 pts) was knocked off his pedestal this week by Kevin Pyke who now takes up the mantle of top of the leader board of The Londis CYP with 24 pts. Richie Whelan is very much in the hunt with 22 pts. All still to play for 86 different players registered with scores....

Looks at the moment that five points could be the mark to qualify with only 12 playing days left to play to qualify for a place in the final. This is very much a moving feast. All still very much to play for!
Week 9 and Final week is 4-Ball Stable-Ford nice and handy and Saturday, March 4 and runs until Friday next, March 10.

Upcoming Fixtures
Holes 1 to 12 will be back in play from this Saturday, March 4.
St. Patrick’s week, March 18-24 is the final of the CYP. Finalists and draws for teams will be posted on Saturday 11th. In tandem with the CYP final we will be kicking off “The Hub 9 Hole Summer Series” This is going to be great!
Saturday, March 11 to Friday, March 17 we have another Paul Tobin open singles. Details to follow Possibly White tees (let’s see what the weather brings).
From March 25-31 we will have the Easter Hamper. That’s the plan at the minute anyway.

Table Quiz
Nobody was quite able to take down “Ned the Beast Brophy” But Tom Byrne, David Hughes, Sean McKeown and Pat Hayes who had 62 out of 70 with two Mulligans unused were “The old Einstein’s” and the runners-up The Young Einstein’s were John Kidd, Paudie Everard, Nick Breen and Mick Mulvihill with 59 out of 70.
A special thanks to John Byrne in Merry’s and Kevin Keating T&R for the Quiz Prizes. The Raffle prizes were sponsored by William Horan (Tesco) TJ & Maura Lyons (Lyons) Eleanor Devaney (Lady Capt.) Dylan Burke (Club PRO.) John & Gillian (The View)
