Tipperary athletics club extends warm welcome of membership to Ukrainians

Dundrum AC welcomed the local Ukrainians for a meet and greet and to see what the club offers for juvenile and adult training.

MEET AND GREET
Dundrum AC in cooperation with South Tipperary Development company representative Deirdre O'Dwyer, were delighted to welcome a group of Ukrainians interested in taking up athletics to the track in Dundrum on Saturday, March 18.

John Moore introduced the club and warmly welcomed the adults and children in attendance, with the help of an interpreter. After a walk around the 250-metre track, coach Michael Moore demonstrated the javelin, hurdles, shot putt and long jump together with some of our juvenile members. Some adults and children also had a go and tried out these events.

Club members Dymphna Ryan, Brid Moore, Zoe Curling and some juvenile members were also in attendance to help out.

Everyone then had some refreshments in the Dundrum Community Hall to finish up what was a very pleasant morning. We look forward to welcoming new faces to the adult Fit4Life group on Monday and Thursday and juvenile training on Tuesday and Friday.

COUCH 2 5K

Our Couch 2 5k started on Monday, February 13.  It's a 9 week programme. Training by coaches on Monday and Thursday at 7pm, at the track at Dundrum Community Centre (former Scouts Hall). Club group runs on Saturday and Sundays at 9am at the Duck Pond, Marlbog.

You need to complete 3 runs per week. Club registration will need to be completed once you start with us for insurance purposes. No other charge. You will be added to the Fit4Life WhatsApp group where the week ahead plan will be shared in case you can't make any of the organised runs.

The Fit4Life group are the most welcoming group to start on this journey. If you can already run 5k and want to improve your time this programme will still be suitable. Our Fit4Life is similar to Couch 2 5k throughout the year it just depends on the effort put in whether that's for beginners or consistent runners wanting to improve.

SPEED SESSIONS
A speed session is held every Tuesday at 7pm at the track in the Canon Hayes Recreational Centre in Tipp Town. Suitable for those already consistently running and want to gain that speed. Details of what the session will be are shared on group WhatsApp.

SLOW / LONG RUNS
Group slow and or long runs are held every Saturday at 8:30am and Sunday at 9am in the Duck Pond, Marlbog.  There is a 2km and 3km route, so suitable for whatever distance you want to complete. We go anticlockwise to the right from the car park. So go clockwise to the left of the car park if running late to catch up.

JUVENILE TRAINING

Juvenile training is held every Tuesday and Friday at 7pm at the track at Dundrum Community Centre. Children have to turn 9 years old by end of this year to be able to take part.
