Dublin cyclist wins  the Annual Bobby Power Memorial Road Race

The Bobby Power Memorial trophy was won this year by Con McDunphy, Lucan CC and the perpetual trophy was presented to him by Margaret Power, widow of the late Bobby Power

Carrick Wheelers Cycling Club’s annual Bobby Power Memorial Road Races on St Patrick’s Day attracted 140 competitors from all over the country.


The races, in memory of the renowned former Carrick Wheelers and international cyclist Bobby Power, started and finished in the village of Clonea Power, just six miles from Carrick-on-Suir. Clonea Power GAA Club was the race headquarters.


Con McDunphy of Lucan CC won the A1 100km race and was presented with the Bobby Power Memorial trophy by the late cyclist’s widow Margaret.


The new Past Members Memorial Cup was presented to local rider Patrick O’Loughlin of Panduit Carrick Wheelers CC, who won the A2 race. The cup was presented to him by Michael Woods (junior) in memory of his late father Mick Woods. Each year this cup will be presented in memory of a different past member of Carrick Wheelers.


The A3 80km race was won by Sean Tarrant of O’Leary Stone Kanturk CC. He won the Tommy Sheehan Memorial Cup, which was presented to him by Bobby Sheehan.


The winner of the A4 riders 60km race was Jim Costello of KWD Recycling-Killarney Cycling Club, who was presented with the Landy Cup by Eamon Landy.
