The Club’s Annual General Meeting took place at the Anner Hotel on Tuesday, March 28.
A good turnout on the night saw the Club adopt a new Constitution as required by Special Olympics Ireland as Thurles is an affiliated member.
Members also voted to insert basketball into the Club’s title to include its main sporting activity.
The Chairman, Enda Bourke, called for a minute's silence to honour the memory of former Chairman, Seamus Mangan, who passed away recently.
In his address to the meeting, he acknowledged the work of all those associated with the Club, and complimented the athletes in training on their hard work and progress.
The Secretary, Mary Ryan Maher gave an outline of activities over the past year.
Treasurer, Carmel Sammon presented the financial accounts.
We also had reports from Medical Officer Dennis Jordan, Athlete Protection Officer Antionette Ruth and Covid Coordinator Catherine Reynolds. Election of Officers for the coming year took place in conjunction with the adoption of the new Constitution.
A discussion followed on the future direction of the Club with a number of interesting and noteworthy contributions from the members present.
The Club continues to hold basketball training in the Presentation every Wednesday evening.
The coaches are hopeful that all previously registered athletes will return as well as welcome new athletes to join up.
We also hope to add to our volunteer numbers who do a great job each week helping out at the training sessions and various social events.
