County U13A Football Championship Final
Boherlahan Dualla 4-6
Cashel King Cormacs 1-4
Local derbies bring their own magic and this Under 13 A Football final belonged to that category as Boherlahan became champions for the first time when they defeated neighbours Cashel King Cormacs in an exciting contest at Dundrum last Sunday afternoon.
It was the team that took their chances and Boherlahan started well with a goal by Dara Crosse in the third minute. By the twelfth minute they had increased their lead to five with points by Harry Ryan and Bobby McLoughlin from a free.
Meanwhile, Cashel enjoyed a lot of possession but had to wait until the 15th minute before MJ Kennedy scored their first point. Kennedy impressed as his ball handling and footwork was a joy to watch.
At the other end Boherlahan squandered a number of goal scoring chances but they were happy with a pointed free by Bobby McLoughlin. Cashel replied with a point in the 19th minute when Ben Fitzgerald scored after cornerback Robert Dunne had begun the attack from his own half.
Two minutes later, Boherlahan were five in front for the second time after Gearoid Horgan scored a point. Play was end to end and Cashel keeper Adam O’Halloran came off his line to avert possible danger and when play swung back down the field it was a three man move involving M J Kennedy, Ben Fitzgerald and Scott Ryan who finished the move to the net.
MJ Kennedy squandered an excellent chance to curb the deficit to one and when Boherlahan returned to opposition territory they were three in front after Bobby McLoughlin pointed a free to make it Boherlahan 1-5 to Cashel 1-2 at the interval.
Cashel began the second half on the front foot but a break away run by Boherlahan ended with Cian Fogarty grabbing Boherlahan’s second goal six minutes into the second half. Cashel pressed once more as MJ Kennedy turned provider for Will Riordan to score but Harry Ryan replied to make it double scores 2-6 to 1-3 before Scott Ryan reduced the margin to five with twelve minutes remaining.
The pace of the game never weakened. Boherlahan attacked when Daniel Burke was through on goal but Cashel keeper Adam O’Halloran saved. Boherlahan continued to press and with Dara Crosse and Gearoid Horgan involved the move was finished with Bobby McLoughlin grabbing his second goal which extended the lead and confirmed the win.
