Thousands of Tipperary students sit their State examinations today

Leaving Cert: Other options if you don't get the points you need

Students across the country sat the State exams today

Stress, tension and even calmness was the lot of many students this morning across Tipperary this morning with the start of this year’s Leaving and Junior Certificate exams.

Thousands of secondary school students at schools across the country headed through their school gates to sit the state exams which have been criticised in recent years for the stress levels it can cause for students.

A slowness in moving from the traditional Victorian style educational model to a more modern European 21st century continuous assessment approach has been one of the issues raised in recent years about the controversial Leaving Certificate.

The sixth years students across the country sat English paper 1 this morning at 9.30am while this afternoon Home Economics Social and Scientific took place at 2pm. Engineering is first up tomorrow morning followed by English paper 2 in the afternoon.

This morning Junior Certificate students sat paper 1 in English while this afternoon they will undertake Religious Education. Tomorrow morning Junior Certificate students will do Irish and in the afternoon they will do their Geography exam.

This year once more, for the first time since Covid-19, the exams are taking place in the traditional way again.

The fine weather greeted students this morning and while it is expected the weather will change in the coming days, currently the forecast remains warm and sunny.

Today's exams were said to be approachable and no doubt students were relieved the first day of the exam period is over. We wish all Tipperary students will who are sitting exams at present.
