Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Senior Championship - Round 2
Tipperary VS Wexford – Saturday 24th June in Bellefield, Enniscorthy @ 4pm
After a brilliant opening start to the championship with an impressive 2-19 to 1-6 win over Dublin Denis Kelly’s side travel to Wexford to take on the homeside in round 2 this Saturday.
Having drawn with the All-Ireland champions Kilkenny in their opening game Wexford will provide a much tougher test for Tipperary.
Trailing by 10 points they showed huge determination to secure the draw thanks to a late equaliser by Ciara O’Connor.
Ciara O’Connor finished with nine points on the day, five from frees while Aine Lacey bagged 1-1.
If Tipp are to succeed on Saturday they will need to curb the influence of Wexford centre back Sarah O’Connor who is a key player in Colin Sutherland’s (former Oulart-the-Ballagh manager) side.
It will be interesting to see if Tipp make any changes from the fifteen that started against Dublin. The team were ruthless in the opening half taking full advantage of the breeze to lead 1-12 to 0-2 at the break.
Cait Devane was in flying form with a goal in each half and will likely take up position at the edge of the square where she will be marked by Ciara Storey. Grace O’Brien, Roisin Howard and Caoimhe Maher all looked really sharp in the win over Dublin and will hope to carry this good vein of form into Saturday’s clash.
A win for Tipp will guarantee a qualifying spot with Kilkenny waiting in the final group in Nowlan park on Saturday July 1st.
