UN boss to travel to Tipp to accept peace award

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will personally travel to accept the Tipperary International Peace Award.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will personally travel to accept the Tipperary International Peace Award.

Mr Ban, who has been honoured for his leadership at a time of global conflict, will accept his award at a gala ceremony in Ballykisteen Hotel and Golf Resort on Sunday, May 24.

Martin Quinn of Tiperary Peace Convention said they were delighted that Mr. Ban has agreed to accept the award in person.

“We are really looking forward to receiving him in Tipperary and to presenting him with the 2014 Tipperary International Peace Award”, said Mr Quinn.

Mr. Ban is being honoured for his leadership in mobilising the international community to address a series of grave conflicts and major natural disasters.

At a moment of division, he has sought to be a bridge-builder; in a period of economic upheaval he has strived to give voice to the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people; and in a world of deepening interconnectedness, he has pursued wide-ranging efforts to adapt the United Nations to face a new generation of challenges and threats.
