National Finals
These medal winners from the Munster track finals along with the winners in the field events from the county finals held back in June 2023 all then converged on Carlow on August 26 to compete in the national track and field finals. It’s a fantastic achievement for these young athletes to have qualified to represent Tipperary on the national stage and excellent displays of athleticism were evident with many of our competitors just narrowly missing out on podium spots.
Tipperary came home with two gold medals, where Clodagh Donoghue, Newport retained the title she had won in 2022 in winning the Girls U16 High Jump competition.
Newport achieved further success when their u12 boys relay team comprised of Shay Coleman, David Gaffrey, Ben Kelly, Mattthew Mellerick, Matthew Power and JJ Roche also secured gold.
Five Silvers were won by Tipperary athletes - Marie Shanahan, St Flannans, Girls U16 Discus; Kenneth Blower, Newport, Boys U16 200m; Liam Crosse, Ballinahinch, Boys U12 Long Puck; Noah Sweeney, Thurles, Boys U12 Ball throw and Jaxon Lynch, Roscrea, Boys U8 80m.
Bronze medals were secured by the Roscrea U16 mixed relay team comprised of Kaela Crampton, Aoife Moore, Harry O’Donoghue and Kaylum O’Meara. And finally Abbie Horgan, Boherlahan won a pewter medal when she finished 4th in the Girls U14 Long Puck.
Congratulations to all the medal winners, to our newly crowned National champions Clodagh and the U12 boys relay team, and well done to each and every child who competed at the finals, and to all the volunteers from Tipperary who helped out.
