CAMOGIE ROUND-UP: Toomevara claim big win while Drom & Inch down Sarsfields

CAMOGIE ROUND-UP:

Senior

Thurles Sarsfields and Drom & Inch played out a cracking encounter in front of a great crowd in Thurles on Sunday morning. A very determined and physically strong Sars side really put it up to the county champions who found themselves trailing 1-9 to 1-8 at the break.

Drom’s first half goal came from Mary Burke who excelled at centre forward. An early Eimear McGrath goal gave Drom the advantage at the start of the second half but there was little between the sides throughout as both forwards exchanged points in a free-flowing high-scoring game.

A third goal for the visitors courtesy of Mary Burke ensured victory for Drom on a final scoreline of 3-16 to 2-15.
The Thurles second half goal came from a Caoimhe Stakelum penalty. For Sars, Karen Kennedy and Lucy Purcell were impressive while Drom’s Miriam Campion proved a handful for the home side.

In the other game in the group Burgess Duharra and Silvermines played out a tough battle and at half time Burgess Duharra went in a point up 0.9-0.8. The second half saw both teams exchanging points with Silvermines going a point up before Caoimhe Maher raised the green flag with an excellently finished goal, putting Burgess Duharra two points up.

Burgess Duharra added a few more points before Silvermines hit the back of the net from a free, however, Burgess Duharra held on to their lead. Final score 1-16-1-11.

There was only one game played in group 2 between Eire Og Annacarty and Clonoulty Rossmore.
60 minutes failed to separate the sides and it finished all square 0-11 to Clonoulty 1-8. Eimear Loughman was excellent for Clonoulty at wing back while Clodagh Quirke impressed at centre back.

Cait Devane scored 1-7 of their 1-8 total with Avril Quirke the only other scorer. For Annacarty, Eva O’Dwyer was prominent at full forward finishing the game with 0-6 (4 frees) while the half backline of Orla O’Brien, Karen Fox, and Shauna Heffernan were excellent.
