Busy days for DBBAC as Tipperary cross country season begins once again

Marie Fitzgerald 1:45:29, Ciara Hickey 1:55:00 (PB), a 7 minute improvement on her time over this course last year and Martina Ivors 1:56:34 (PB) took part in the Clonmel Half Marathon on Saturday las

Our DBBAC athletes have been busy in the last couple of weeks taking on various half marathons in Charleville & Clonmel and of course back to our cross country season once again last Sunday in Moyne.

Charleville Half Marathon
Fantastic running by our senior athletes, Neville O'Connell and Tiernan O'Donnell who took on the Charleville International Half Marathon on Sunday 10th September in very warm conditions. Both of these athletes are in training for Dublin Marathon at the end of October. Neville finished in 1:29:22 and Tiernan in 1:30:01 (PB). Well done to both athletes.

Boston Scientific Half Marathon 2023
The rescheduled Boston Scientific Half marathon was held on Saturday 17th September with a total of 284 athletes taking part. The organisers had to change the route at 7am that morning due to the amount of rain that had fallen in the previous few days had flooded a part of the blueway. They are to be commended for their efforts and it in no way took from this well organised event. DBB AC had 3 senior athletes compete, Marie Fitzgerald 1:45:29, Ciara Hickey 1:55:00 (PB), a 7 minute improvement on her time over this course last year and Martina Ivors 1:56:34 (PB). Well done to all involved.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MOYNE AC

Moyne AC celebrated their 75th Birthday in true athletic style with an Open Cross Country Event held on Sunday 17th September 2023, in ‘Castle Field’, Moyneard, Thurles. A brilliant start to the Cross Country Season taking place within the shelter of the ‘Beech Ditch’. The beautifully produced printed programme provided a snapshot of memories through the decades since the club was set up in 1948, stimulating many to reminisce on their own experiences of events hosted by Moyne AC, including our own Annette O’Donnell who was part of the Tipperary team who won a bronze medal at an All-Ireland Cross Country Competition in 1988.

Within the anniversary event, DBB had 9 athletes participate in the day’s programme which ran very promptly. First off were Aisling O’Donnell and Aine Hickey who ran in the u9 500m distance. This was the first cross country event for both girls, who were delighted to be able to participate and ran very well. Next up were two of the u11 girls, Meabh O’Donnell and Caoimhe Hickey, who ran 1000m, with Meabh placing 3rd. Meabh will be able to run again in this age category next year.

In quick succession Luke O'Connell ran the same distance with the U11 boys, doing really well against some stiff competition. Jack Maher and Cian O’Donnell ran in the 1500m U13 race, and Seimi O'Gorman ran the 2000m U15 race, placing 4th.

Last but not least we had Mollie Maher run 3000m U19 event, which was combined with the Senior Women 3000m event.

A huge well done to all DBB athletes who took part in this event and thank you to Moyne for organising such a fantastic day.
