Next Saturday is a bumper day for hurling in the county and one of the most eagerly anticipated games will be the Premier Intermediate Hurling which sees Lorrha Dorrha take on Thurles Sarsfields at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh that afternoon.

Both sides have been impressive on their journey to the big day, with Lorrha seeing off the favourites Cashel King Cormacs by striking three early goals, while continuing to keep their noses in front right to the finish line, on Sunday afternoon last in Toomevara.

The week before that game, the Cathedral town side hit top form early and stayed ahead in their semi final against a rocked Killenaule that - try though they might - couldn't break down a solid Thurles Sarsfields defence.

Centre back Michael Cahill played a key part for the victors while Jack Lanigan kept the pressure on Killenaule by hurling a stormer to ensure his side qualified for the final.

It is a rare weekend for the club in store now as Sarsfields contest the final on Saturday as well as the senior hurling final on Sunday afternoon against Kiladangan, with the Dan Breen cup at stake in that one.

Many of the players that will hurl next Saturday - including Michael Cahill - lined out for the club's football team on Saturday last against Aherlow in the Tipperary Intermediate football semi final.

They were beaten in that one but excitement levels will be high all week in Thurles as they prepare for a rare kind of double glory.

The club has a remarkable FIVE adult hurling teams and two of those teams will contest county finals within 24 hours. Some players hurling on Saturday will be substitutes on Sunday, and indeed one or two may play a part on both days.

Brian Stakelum is their Premier Intermediate manager while Padraic Maher and Paddy McCormack are also part of the management team of both final-reaching sides in their club.

For Lorrha the focus will be on their own path - they look to continue on a rising trajectory - as they hope to get back to the glory days of senior hurling once again.

Leading the charge is former Tipperary hurler and manager Ken Hogan, who has given many years of service to his club and to the GAA overall.

Again Ken has proved his worth as a top-class manager by leading yet another club team to a county final.

Brian Carroll and Shane Brophy are also part of a management team that will look to key players such as Bonner Maher and Niall McIntyre in their search for a county title.

The match ups on the day could well decide how this game plays out. It promises to be an exciting final and the atmosphere usually generated in Nenagh will contribute greatly to the occasion.

Throw in next Saturday afternoon is at 4pm. See the Tipperary Star for a full preview of the game.
