Munster Junior Cup (2nd Round)
Old Bridge 0 – 8 Cahir Park
Cahir Park advanced to the third round of the Munster Junior Cup with a facile victory over a depleted Old Bridge side in Green Lane on Sunday afternoon.
The visitors were on the offensive right from the start and were rewarded in just the second minute when William Dunne bundled the ball over the line from a poorly defended corner.
The Premier League side were in dominant form, and only some last ditch defending prevented them from adding to their total even that early in the game. They finally did add a second when Pa Quinn netted after some sloppy defending 20 minutes in.
The third arrived in the 28th minute through Niall Daly, but to their credit, the home side battened down the hatches and kept the visitors at bay from there until the break.
The home side came out of their shell in the initial stages of the second period with good work from Simon O’Donnell and Michael O’Sullivan, and they were very unlucky not to score when Johnny Cagney’s free kick was touched on to the crossbar by Cahir custodian Aaron Wall.
This seemed to re-awaken the visitors, and Pa Quinn completed his hat trick with goals in the 60th and 65th fifth minutes. Niall Daly added a sixth in the 70th minute and the scoring was completed by a Tommy McDonagh double in the last five minutes of the game as ‘The Park’ advanced.
