County U15A Hurling Championship Final
Durlas Óg 1-19
St Marys 1-9
Durlas Óg clinched their third successive U15A county title last Sunday afternoon after a terrific and impressive second-half display finally subdued a gallant St Marys team in Golden.
Despite St Marys making this a terrific contest for some three-quarters of the game, DUrlas Óg showed their champion credentials with an unstoppable second-half display.
Overall, this year's county U15A decider was an exhilarating contest for the most part, and the weather conditions were good on what was a perfect pitch for hurling on the day.
St Marys got off to a great start and after twelve minutes were leading by four points, their scores coming from Harry Lawlor and Dara Maher. Darragh O’Dwyer got the first of four for the day to steady the ship for Durlas Og.
Harry Lawlor and Euan Murray traded points from long-range frees before Eoin Webb added two points of his own. Marys then hit a purple patch with Maher getting a point and a goal from Killian Smith to open up a healthy six-point lead after 24 minutes.
The Thurles side didn't panic and finished the half with the last three scores, two points from Eoin Webb, and a great point on the run from Jakub Magalinski. Half-time score 1-7 to 0-7.
Durlas Og came out for the second half with real intent though, and the hard-working figure of Tom Gleeson at full forward opened the scoring with his teammate Darragh O’Dwyer following up with another straight from the puckout.
A great run and pass from Euan Murray set up David Hanna for a goal in the 34th minute of the half, while Murray quickly followed up with a superb long-range point to give the lads in red the perfect start to the half.
Points were then swapped between Harry Lawlor and Aaron Darmody to leave the mid-team leading by four after ten minutes of the half. Corner forward Eoin Webb would then step up for his first of five second-half points and was proving a real handful for the south champions.
Euan Murray was really standing up now and landed the point of the day from inside his own 65, and despite some great work around the middle from Daniel Charles, Marys couldn't break down the resolute Thurles defence with Kieran and Andy Rossiter ably assisted by Brody Donoghue in repelling every attack.
The deadly duo of Webb and O’Dwyer would round off the scoring with three apiece to help Durlas Óg to another county title and to leave the full-time score 1-19 to 1-9.
