Munster Junior Cup (3rd Round)

CASHEL TOWN 0 ST MICHAEL'S 8

Tipperary Town side St Michael’s were in top form at Palmershill on Sunday and turned in probably their best performance of the season when they dismantled Cashel Town at Dixie Currivan Park on Sunday afternoon.

After a bright start and a few half chances, the visitors took the lead on seven minutes when Jimmy Carr was upended after an Ed O’Dwyer pass and he stood up to score from the spot kick.

It was 2-0 in the 21st minute, when Colin Bargary found Ed O’Dwyer just outside the area, and the striker spun and fired home from the edge of the box.

Shane Ryan’s header on the half hour mark from a Rhys O’Regan corner hit the side netting, as the visitors smelled blood in the water.

Cashel Town had brief moments but never really looked like they were going to break down the solid visiting defence and Saints went in comfortably two goals to the good.

They moved up a gear in the second period and added a third only two minutes in, when O’Dwyer finally got the goal, his performance had been threatening.

Four minutes later it was 4-0, when Shane Ryan was upended in the area and Jimmy Carr scored with his second penalty of the day.

At the other end substitute Andrew Fitzpatrick saw his free kick go narrowly wide of Adrian Walsh’s goal, and Eoin Byrne headed narrowly wide, while a left footed effort from Byrne was tipped over by Adrian Walsh. But these were just brief respites in a dominant Saints performance.

St Michael’s Rhys O’Regan then saw his effort deflected into the goal 20 minutes from time to make it 5-0, and they added three more inside the last ten minutes through David Slattery and a brace by Danny O’Brien, to round off a really dominant performance by a rejuvenated St Michael’s side who seem to be kicking on into top form again as the season hots up.
