The Tipperary Paralympian gave a brilliant interview (as per usual) on Friday night on the Late Late Show.

Alongside Peter was Irish rugby player Robbie Henshaw who was part of Peter's team for his recent Vision Ireland (formerly known as NCBI) fundraiser.

The Upperchurch-Drombane native took on the monumental challenge of running from the ‘top to toe’ of Ireland in recent weeks to raise vital funds and spearhead the delivery of a sight loss support service into the heart of local communities.

It was a gruelling challenge, running over 100kms a day yet Peter kept going all the way.

He was joined on the way by his fianceé Gemma as well as former Tipperary hurling star Brendan Maher amongst others.

Peter Ryan ran from Malin Head in County Donegal to Ireland’s most southerly point at Mizen Head in County Cork.

The challenge took place over five days culminating on World Sight Day 2023 (October 12), with the longest leg challenging Peter to run more than three consecutive marathons in just one day.

Peter has raised over €110,000 to date for charity and continues to go far beyond his own and others expectations with extraordinary courage.

He competed for Ireland in the Rio Olympics and, pre sight loss, was an accomplished soccer player with Clodiagh Rangers as well as a hurler with Tipperary and his club Upperchurch Drombane.

After being diagnosed with a rare genetic condition, Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy, at age 19, Peter worked through the challenges of his vision loss with the support of Vision Ireland and by channelling his passion and love of sport.

All funds raised from the recent 586km challenge were donated to Vision Ireland to aid the development of the country’s first mobile information and eye health awareness unit, the Vision Van.

The Vision Van will travel across Ireland, providing information on eye conditions, awareness and support services to local communities and areas in which eye health services may be harder to reach.
