Two Mile Borris 1 – 2 Midleton

A brave Borris under 17 side bowed out of the FAI Cup on Saturday when they went down by the odd goal in three against a very strong Midleton side from Cork at Newhill.

The visitors started the quicker and got a deserved goal to take the lead in the 15th minute. This seemed to wake Borris up and they started to control the middle of the field, creating numerous chances and finally taking one to level the game when Cian O’Dwyer got in behind the Midleton defence and scored with a superb finish.

There were no more goals in the first half but Borris went to the break the happier. They continued that good form in the second period, but crucially could not find the reward they desperately required, as they were thwarted time and again by some superb defending and goalkeeping.

And they cruelly paid for their misses 20 minutes from time when the Cork side put together an excellent move that resulted in them going back into the lead. The last twenty minutes were frantic for Borris, but they just could not add that tiny bit of quality needed to get the goal that might have extended their run in the competition, and bowed out in the end.
