Fears raised that the state of the N24 could cause a fatal accident in Tipp

Many motorists are driving in fear with the state the roads are in across the county

The materials used on Irish roads are not lasting and a proper job needs to be done a councillor said at the latest Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel Municipal District monthly meeting.

The shocking state of Tipperary roads was brought to the attention of James Swords at the recent Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel Municipal District monthly meeting.

Councillors there informed James Swords of the state of the roads in parts of the county and said it was time that it was dealt with once and for all.

Councillor Marie Murphy, who reported on the state of the potholes on the N24 near ‘Pollards’ as one drives towards Cahir, said: “It is an accident waiting to happen,” before adding “I’m not sure if it is in this Municipal District or whether it is in the Clonmel district but it has been reported to both MD’s.

“If the situation is dangerous can the council not just go in and fill the potholes?”

She said that it was obvious that TII need to do a “proper job” on them but something has to be done immediately before someone else loses their life on Tipperary roads.

Councillor Máirín McGrath supported her fellow Councillor and said it is just “ridiculous” because the potholes are there now for six to eight months.

It is falling in between “boundary lines of two districts” she said. Cllr McGrath said she drives the road everyday and drivers now have to pull out near the centre line to avoid potholes.

She made it clear to the Council representatives that it is “not good enough”. In response the District Engineer said that the “N24 potholes are in the Clonmel District”.

It was pointed out that that particular section was forwarded on to TII early in the year in May. The council didn’t want to intervene without the TII “giving sanction on that”. There was agreement that it needs to be dealt with quickly.
