The County Senior Cross Country Championships were held on Sunday last on the old Dublin Road just outside Cashel and hosted by Dundrum AC.
The club thanks Michael Ryan and Karen Coughlan for the use of their land for the race. Conditions were windy for running. We had 14 athletes competing.
The women raced over 6k and we had six competing. Dymphna Ryan was the clear winner in a fantastic time of 22:36. She was followed by Linda Grogan 25:22, also finishing on the podium in third place. Next was fifth, Catherine Fogarty 25:59.
These three all had fantastic runs to secure the County Senior Cross Country Cup for the fifth year in a row (2020 was not included due to Covid and no races).
Our second team also ran really well to win gold in the B team event with 10th Karen Coughlan 27:15, 15th Tish Ryan 28:52 and 16th Mary Keane 29:54. It was a fantastic achievement by all.
In the men’s race over 10k we had eight competing. First home for the club and continuing his fine form was fifth Barry Hartnett 35:49. He was followed by 17th Martin Keane 41:05, 20th John Ryan 42:20 and 22nd Eamonn Morrissey 42:52.
These four were fifth in the club team event.
Our second team in the B Category won silver with 25th Gerry O’Neill 43:09, 26th Patrick Ryan 43:34, 34th Jim Halley 44:57 and 39th Michael Ryan 48:20.
MUNSTER MASTERS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Munster Masters Cross Country Championships were held on Saturday, December 9 in Ennis, county Clare. We had 11 athletes who travelled to the Banner County.
The women raced over 4k. Dymphna Ryan had a superb race to win the overall race and she was first Over 40 in 15:46. Next we had sixth Linda Grogan 17:40 who was fourth Over 40, 10th Karen Coughlan 18:17 who was sixth Over 40 and 28th Mairead Julian 20:54 who was fifth Over 45. The four women won silver in the O35 club team event. Dymphna and Linda were on the O35 county team that won gold. The men raced over 7k. Barry Hartnett had a great race to place 5th in 25:31 and was 3rd O40. He was followed by 36th Jim Halley 31:13 (7th O55), 38th Michael Moore 31:24 (5th O60) and 42nd Michael Ryan 32:12 (9th O40).
The club team placed fifth in the O35 team event. We had three competing in the O65 category over 4k. First home for the club was 7th Liam Butler 21:24. He was followed by 8th John Moore 21:33 and 11th PJ Holmes 22:20. The club team won silver and Liam and John were also on the county team that won silver.
It was fantastic running by all of our senior athletes over the past two weekends, with the women in particular doing extremely well at both county and provincial level.
