Wife of man shot while playing soccer in Tipperary village gives update on his condition

The wife of a man who was shot while playing a soccer match in a Tipperary village on Saturday night has given an update on his condition following the freak incident.

The father, aged in his early 30s, was hit in the arm by a stray bullet during a game on the astro turf pitch in Rear Cross shortly after 9pm on Saturday night.

Giving an update on his condition this Sunday morning, the man's wife, who is from County Limerick, said: "He's fine. He's home, thank God."

She said he was very lucky where he got shot in his body.

"He's still in a bit of shock. It's the strangest soccer injury ever I'd say," she said. The injured man and his wife are a popular couple on both sides of the county border in east Limerick and west Tipperary.

Gardai have appealed to people who may have been hunting in the area at the time to come forward.

The adult male player who sustained a gunshot wound to the arm was treated at the scene by emergency services personnel and brought by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick for further assessment.

The scene remains cordoned off and a forensic and technical examination will be carried out this Sunday.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
