Top class Tipperary jockey Rachael Blackmore was presented with an honorary MBE today for services to sport in Britain marking her fantastic achievements.
The Killenaule native has done Ireland proud on the international stage and continues to break new ground in the racing world.
Honorary MBEs in Britian recognise people from overseas who excel in their chosen field in Britain and the Irish hero adds to the racing legends roll of honour which includes Italian jockey Frankie Dettori from 2001.
Many barriers have been broken down by the success of Rachael Blackmore who was the first female jockey to win many top quality races. Back in 2021 she rode six winners at the Cheltenham Festival becoming the first woman to win the prestigious top jockey award.
The Champion Hurdle was the big one as she mounted Honeysuckle for trainer Henry de Bromhead in a famous and memorable victory.
Minella Times then won the Aintree Grand National a month later with the Killenaule jockey onboard the horse, a win that set off great celebrations across Tipperary.
She won the BBC Sports Personality’s World Sport Star of the Year that year following in the footsteps of sporting legends such as Muhummad Ali.
Another Cheltenham Gold Cup was secured afterwards on A Plus Tard once more for Henry De Bromhead as the trainer and jockey duo kept the good times going.
The latest award was collected earlier today as Conservative MP for Pudsey, Horsforth & Aireborough - the Minister for Sport - across the Irish sea presented the award to the Tipperary woman.
