There has already been support for Paul O’Donovan to be crowned 2024 RTÉ Sports Person of the Year with the rower a well fancied 3/1 favourite with BoyleSports to lift the coveted prize.

It could be a year to remember for Irish Olympians with both Paul O’Donovan and Kellie Harrington bidding to double their gold medal haul.

Cork native O’Donovan secured gold in 2020 alongside Fintan McCarthy and silver at Rio in 2016, with brother Gary. Well known for his humour filled interviews pre and post-race, punters are hoping a gold medal in Paris will allow O’Donovan to end the year on a high at the RTÉ awards bash.

Kellie Harrington captured the hearts of the nation when bringing home a gold medal from Tokyo and the Dubliner has confirmed she will bow out of boxing after this summer’s Paris games.

With the possibility of another gold medal on the horizon and her Summerhill supporters firmly behind her, Kellie is a 4/1 shot with BoyleSports to be RTÉ’s Sports Person of the Year, alongside fellow boxing gold medalist, Katie Taylor.

Taylor, who is already a three-time winner of the award, was denied by European and World Champion gymnast Rhys McClenaghan (6/1) in 2023.

With the dream of a trilogy fight against Chantelle Cameron at Croke Park still alive, a victory could cement Taylor’s status as one Ireland’s greatest.

Taylor isn’t the only athlete hunting down another win at RTÉ HQ, with Rory McIlroy looking to treble up after victory in 2011 and 2014, coinciding with major wins. The Holywood native is 5/1 to emerge as this year’s winner and a 9/4 shot with BoyleSports to win a major in 2024 after he opened his year with a stunning round of 62 in Dubai on Thursday.

Tipperary jockey 25/1 Rachael Blackmore is currently 25/1 to be the RTÉ Sports Person of the Year 2024

Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “The excitement is building with the Six Nations, Olympics and a potential Katie Taylor bout at Croke Park all capturing the imagination, but it’s Paul O’Donovan who is getting the nod from punters to have a year to remember.”
