Tipperary drama group to stage Stolen Child ahead of taking to the festival circuit

Ger Jones of Moyne Drama Group plays Chris in their production of Stolen Child

Rehearsals are in full swing in Moyne Community Centre for Moyne Drama Group’s production of Stolen Child by Yvonne Quinn and Bairbre Ni Chaoimh.

The play will take to the stage from Thursday, January 25, to Sunday, January 28, at 8.30pm nightly.

Set in 1990, Stolen Child tells the story of a woman’s journey to find her biological mother. Angela Tiernan (played by Geraldine Delaney) enlists the help of a shambolic private detective Mick Tracy (played by Ken Murphy) whose irreverent humour and hard-drinking lifestyle mask a deep understanding of human frailty.

Angela’s complicated relationship with local doctor Chris (played by Ger Jones) does little to help her emotional well-being throughout the story. Parallel to her quest is the heartbreaking personal story of her mother Peggy’s (played by Maureen Claffey) upbringing by nuns in the 1940s industrial school and the harsh facts surrounding the enforced adoption of her newborn baby.

Filled with black humour and moving performances, the play will strike a nerve with many, holding the audience in its grip from start to finish.

The production is directed by Joanne Bannon and tickets will be available each night at the door, priced at €10.

After its run in Moyne, the group will travel on the Confined Festival circuit and will compete in six festivals during March, including the Tipperary Drama Festival on Saturday, March 16.

Because of the sensitive material in the play, it has been deemed unsuitable for children.
