PREVIEW: Tipperary looking to get league campaign off to winning start this Saturday

The eagerly anticipated clash between Tipperary and Waterford in the VERY division 1A Camogie League promises to be a thrilling game.

A repeat of last year’s All-Ireland semi-final the opening round of the league is set to take place on Saturday, February 17th, at Sean Treacys GAA, Kilcommon.

The Tipperary team will be entering the fixture with high hopes, aiming to get the year off to a winning start and determined not to suffer a home defeat.

Denis Kelly recently announced his panel for the league with some notable absences including keeper Aine Slattery and key forward Cait Devane.

Boasting a strong squad Tipperary will be looking to build momentum early in the league campaign with a big performance against key rivals Waterford whom they have had great battles against in recent years.

Borris-Ileigh’s Nicole Walsh has been converted into a goalkeeper and is expected to get the number one jersey on Saturday. In their recent win over Cork in a challenge game Caoimhe Maher impressed at centre back and with Karen Kennedy currently out with an injury Caoimhe will likely start at number six.

Conversely, Waterford will be traveling to the County Camogie Grounds with determination to secure a vital away victory. Armed with their own set of talented players from Beth Carton to Lorraine Bray and Mairead O’Brien they will be keen to upset the home team and lay down a marker for the season ahead.

They have a new manager for 2024 with All-Ireland-winning Cork minor manager Gerry Wallace crossing the border to take over the 2023 beaten All-Ireland finalists.

Despite both teams knowing each other inside out an exciting free-flowing contest is predicted. Take advantage of what is sure to be a captivating clash between two of Camogie's finest teams. Get to Sean Treacys GAA, Kilcommon this Saturday, February 17th, at 2 pm, as Tipperary and Waterford battle it out in the opening game of the VERY Division 1 A league.
