The Munster GAA Senior Hurling and Football Championships 2024 were launched at Cahir Castle in Tipperary by hurling hero Nicky English. At the launch on Thursday evening last Munster Council chairman Ger Ryan spoke to those assembled and pointed out that the launch is "an important event in our calendar as we head into the most important games of our season."

There will be extremely busy couple of months ahead for players, managers, administrators and patrons attending the games. Ger Ryan said that the exciting season of championship encounters has just begun: "Our Under 20 championships have started already, and we will be proceeding through minor to senior between now and the Munster football final on the 5th of May and the hurling final on the 9th of June.

"A lot of work goes into each game," the Templederry native said. "When you see a big crowd at any of the stadiums around Munster it doesn't happen by accident so I want to thank the people who run them, our own people particularily the voluntary stewards from around the province who make sure our games run.

"One of the most important things about our championship is that we send a big welcome to everybody who comes and that people who do come feel they had a good day out irrespective of whether their team wins or loses and that they want to come back another day.

"The experience of our spectators is of increasing importance and it is very important to us as well that we serve that desire and need of people who come to our games. Over 300,000 people came to the Munster championship for example last year and when we add in all of our championship - club and intercounty - we are well over 400,000 people every year.

"That's a lot of people and we want to keep them coming back. Obviously it is our players who bring them in and I want to thank all the players, all the team managers who were here earlier in the day and selectors in cases where managers weren't available."

Sponsors of the championship were present, including Stephen Mangan of Allianz and the Dolans representing Supervalu as well as members of the Munster Council. Communications Manager with Munster GAA as well as the special guest - Nicky English - also spoke to those present in the Castle.
