Labour’s Candidate Louise Morgan Walsh in Nenagh LEA, has expressed grave concern over Ireland’s road safety challenges exacerbated by a lack of comprehensive crash data following last week’s RTÉ Primetime.

Ms Morgan Walsh said, “Unfortunately, hardly a family or a community in North Tipperary has been untouched by the tragic consequences of road fatalities. The absence of reliable data leaves local authorities ‘shooting in the dark’ when making crucial decisions about road improvements to address safety issues.

“Government’s response to Ireland’s road safety crisis has been completely inadequate. We urgently need an increased number of average speed cameras like the ones on the M7 between Nenagh & Birdhill to enforce safer driving practices.

"However, these plans must transcend mere lip service and headline-grabbing spin. Doubling penalty points and reducing road speeds alone will not suffice.

“We cannot afford to wait any longer. Government must act with a greater sense of urgency.”
