Déan Tú Féin É, a brand new 6-part series on TG4, featured Aileen Hogan who is a very creative woman that encourages everyone to give DIY a go no matter your experience or ability.
Aileen has a large following online and many options are on her website called Shabby.ie. She is based in Terryglass, Co. Tipperary. Aileen helps people to upskill and makes new objects and furniture around the house.
In the show she spoke of how she began in the business: “I have been upcycling for many years and it became my second career,” she said.
Those around her got her to help and the business grew from there. Her work can be found at www.shabby.ie. The new show on television seeks to nurture viewers ‘can do’ attitude and give advice and tips about ‘the how to’ and ‘the when to’, when undertaking big and small DIY projects.
Driven by DIY enthusiast, founder and artistic director of Branar Marc Mac Lochlainn, the presenter’s practical hands-on approach and infectious enthusiasm for all things DIY informs, entertain and encourage six novice DIYers across the series who wish to undertake, long avoided backyard projects.
In the second episode which aired last Thursday presenter Marc travelled to Donore, Co. Meath to help a young man, Lochlainn Mac an Chnoic fix a broken gate at the side of his house which was causing a lot of issues. They worked on other projects in the yards too.
Also in the second episode, Bríd Treasa Ní Ghaoithín, the show’s curious reporter met two new DIY heroes as well as Gearóid de Faoite (Greystones, Co.Wicklow), a man who transforms drums from old, discarded washing machines into beautiful bespoke furniture and fire pits.
There is something for everyone in this series, from the budding DIY enthusiast to the experienced DIY heroes, all united by one aim to improve their homes and living spaces for the better.
Each show, produced by TV production newcomers, Glór Media, under the guidance and mentorship of Tyrone Productions will chart the true and inspiring progression of these skills with a follow up visit and big project reveal.
