Tipperary Courthouse will be upgraded.
Almost €8m in capital funding has been allocated to Tipperary Town – for a social, community and heritage led regeneration project of Dan Breen House and Tipperary Courthouse and Bridewell in Tipperary through the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund, Fine Gael Councillor Declan Burgess has said.
Cathaoirleach of Tipperary Cahir Cashel Municipal District Cllr. Delcan Burgess said: “This funding is Fine Gael’s Our Rural Future plan in action, delivering at local level and making a real difference in our rural towns and villages in Tipperary.
"This project will redevelop two historic buildings to provide high quality education and training spaces for youths and adults and provide key community services in the town centre. The project will increase access to further education and training while reducing town centre vacancy and dereliction. This project is a key component on the plans for Tipperary Town’s regeneration and I am delighted to see this significant investment being made today”.
“This announcement has been made possible by my colleague Minister Heather Humphreys, as part of Our Rural Future and Town Centre First policies, to provide strategic capital funding for significant projects around the country.
“Today’s announcement relates to the Fifth Call for Category 1 applications, which provides funding for large scale capital projects which have planning in place and are ready to proceed.
“The unprecedented national funding of €164 million announced today will revitalise towns and villages, addressing vacancy and dereliction, stimulating rural economies, and responding to community needs.
“The reimagined space in Tipperary Town will act as a new Youth and Further Education and Training Centre in partnership with Youth Work Ireland Tipperary and Tipperary Education and Training Board, while the former Courthouse will be transformed into a day service location for adults with intellectual disabilities in partnership with Moorehaven Centre.
These projects emerged initially through the work of Tipperary Town Revitalisation and received planning permission over the past 12 months.
“I would like to thank all of the partners and everyone who contributed to the application, our own members, the elected members and the staff of Tipperary Cahir Cashel Municipal District who oversaw the development of the planning and design phases, along with South Tipperary Development Company who supported the business case under the LEADER programme”
“The pandemic taught us all to appreciate the fantastic outdoors, right on our doorsteps, and this significant investment and funding further ensures that Tipperary remains a vibrant place for families, tourists, and the entire community to enjoy.
“This is more investment from Fine Gael into rural Ireland than ever before and these projects are all about making our rural towns and villages great places to live, work and raise a family.
“I will continue to do my utmost to ensure Tipperary remains of top priority when it comes to Government investment.” Burgess concluded.
