Tipperary students raise €1,000 for local hospice at cycle in memory of former teacher

On Wednesday morning staff from Coláiste Phobal gathered in Dunkerrin to do their annual cycle to work in aid of Offaly hospice.

In recent years the cycle has been dedicated to the memory of Mick O’Shea. Mick was a Science teacher here in the Coláiste and an avid cyclist.

Rain or shine, Mick cycled to school every day from Shinrone. Rarely was he seen driving his car. €1,001.30 was raised on the day and will be given to Offaly hospice, as they provided such good care for Mick in his final days.

Mick's wife Ann joined us Wednesday morning, as did some retired teachers who had worked with him during his time with us.

Thanks to all who took part and to Mr Hogan for coordinating the event.

We would also like to acknowledge The School Food Company, who kindly provided breakfasts for all the cyclists.
