The month of May was SuperValu’s major promotion of the SuperValu National Tidy Towns Competition and the judges will be visiting all the entries over the next few weeks, Thurles included.

Our picture shows Thurles Tidy Town volunteers Seamus Slattery and John Lanigan planting Oak and Hazel trees on the river bank on the lovely river walk linking Thomond Road and Slievenamon Road.

This tarmac river walk with its sponsored seating is a major amenity for the people of Thurles to enjoy.

The colourful Nature Boards are located at the Thomond Rd. and Slievenamon Rd.

Entry points and provide information on the flora and fauna to be observed along the way.

The Thomond Road entrance links the river walk to the new bridge over the river Suir and into the new Municipal Town Park with its basketball court, skateboard area, children's playground, swimming pool, and green amenity areas.

Thurles Municipal District Council are proposing to make use of the old farm building and invite tenders from interested parties to further this venture.

Thurles Tidy Town meet at the garden on Rossa Street, opposite the Premier Hall, on most Saturdays at 12pm and we'd love to have your support.

Do call for a chat, and see how you can get involved.

We will do some litter picks over the next few weeks and our thanks to Tom Barry of SuperValu for sponsoring high-vis vests and implements.

We produced a Residents Association Handbook that is full of information on how to get involved and has our contact information on it also.
