Incredible skill on show in Cashel golf competition with an unusual twist

The Footgolf Association of Ireland's nation tour headed to Cashel last Sunday, June 23, for their fourth stage.

The Cashel Golf Complex worked hard to prepare the venue for the event.

Four players from Tipperary took part in the competition, with Jake Moore proving to be a welcome addition to the group, taking home the best new player prize.

In the Ladies contest, reigning Irish Ladies Champion, Katie Donoghue took her first win of the season with a two shot victory over this season's current leader Nicola Hogarty, with Laura McGrath taking third place

Shane Smullen led overall through the first 18 holes, and that strong base proved enough for him to claim his maiden victory this year in the amateur category.

Paddy Umlawski podiumed for the first time in 2024, finishing in second place, with Sami Tahraoui finishing 3rd

Two players have dominated Irish FootGolf over the last 5 years

Joe Donoghue kept up his remarkable record of only 1 tour loss since he entered the game in 2018.

Donoghue was at level par after the first 15 holes, but he then got to grips with the course, eventually finishing -12 to take a one-shot win over John Callinan, who held a three shot lead after the first round.

Colman McGrath completed the Senior placings in third place.

Jimmy Barry, multiple Irish champion, emphasised his class at this event with a huge ten shot advantage over his nearest challenger.

In the Pro and overall section, Liam Buckley finished second, with Paul Mullin beating Aaron Hornibrook in a playoff to take the bronze medal.

The next event will be a FIFG 250 on the FootGolf course at Enniskillen Golf club for what could to be a pivotal competition to determine the Irish tour champions for 2024.

The FGAI asks that anyone who is interested in taking part, to come along and play, so as to help the growth and development of the game in Ireland.
