Retiring school principal Mrs Eithne Sheehan received a rousing musical send off on her last day at Crehana National School.
Mrs Sheehan retired from the rural school near Carrick-on-Suir on Thursday, September 5 after 34 years service there as a teacher with the past 15 years as its principal.
The Army Band of the 1st Brigade under Captain Ben Jacob visited Crehana NS to perform at Mrs Sheehan’s retirement celebration and entertain the school’s pupils.
Fr Tom Fynn of Carrickbeg/Windgap Parish, Siobhán McCarthy, Chairperson of Crehana NS Parents Association and Pat Murphy, Chairman of Crehana NS Board of Management addressed the retirement celebration as did Mrs Sheehan.
Many past pupils attended the event along with the school’s current pupils, their parents and grandparents, teachers, neighbours, and friends.
Past principals Eamon Drohan and Killian O’Reilly were also in attendance.
Captain Jacob and the Army Band entertained everyone and introduced each musical instrument, which was a great hit with the pupils.
Tea and refreshments were provided on the day by the Parents Association and Sandra Power did a sterling job as Master of Ceremonies.
