Local Tipperary school announces date for open evening and 'live-in experience'

Cistercian College Roscrea has announced that they will be hosting an open evening and 'Live-In Experience' from 3pm on Friday, September 27.

The evening will be open to prospective students and their families.

The 'Live-In' experience is open to boys who are interested in the College’s day, five-day and seven-day boarding programmes.

Prospective boarders will have the opportunity to stay overnight and gain experience of what "home away from home" is like at Cistercian College.

Enrolment for both day and boarding at the College continues to be on the upward trend, the current academic year has seen another increase in student numbers.

The College has day and boarding options to meet each family’s individual needs.

The College continues their trend of achieving top marks in this year’s Leaving certificate examinations.

The holistic focus of a ‘A Place To Grow’ includes debating, public speaking, presenting and study skills.

The College’s Wellbeing programmes assist the boys holistic development, aiding their ability to meet the demands of secondary school and preparing them not just for exams but for life.

The College has produced excellent results in national Athletics, Basketball, Rugby, Hurling and Golf.

Rugby has been substantially bolstered with the appointment of Mr Mark Butler, having coached with Munster and Ireland under age grades.

A year which saw, three of the senior rugby team starting for the Ireland U18’s against England in the Summer Series in South Africa, an unprecedented milestone for the College, the students and their families.

Along with representation on provincial teams, CCR students featuring in Leinster, Connacht and Munster squads, along with the huge honour for one of our students captaining Munster Under 18’s.

Mr Tommy Dunne, Captain and All Ireland winner with Tipperary, was appointed as Director of Hurling last season, where we won a Leinster title and reached the All-Ireland Semi-final, an outstanding achievement.

Hurling remains a cornerstone of our sport offering in the College.

Golf continues to grow, led by the College’s Director of Golf, PGA Advanced Coach and Elite Performance Coach, Mr Bobby King.

It boasts an indoor golf room, with Trackman Golf Simulator, artificial green as well as outside golf training facilities.

Music is a huge part of life in Cistercian College with a rich heritage led by Director Mr William Cullagh, Music is built around three key events , the annual musical “Opera”, the stunning Christmas Carol service in Mount St Joesph Abbey with the finale being the University Concert Hall in Limerick Arts evening.

The College President Mr Colm Maloney, is looking forward to welcoming students and parents to one of Ireland’s leading secondary schools.
