Tipp GAA club mourns the passing of a Palestinian boy in Gaza, who visited the club back in 2016

Burgess GAA club in North Tipperary posted a poignant and heartfelt tribute to a young Palestinian man who lost his life in Gaza recently.

Muhammad Khalifa (20), who was sadly killed along with seven other members of his family in an airstrike in Gaza on Wednesday, visited the club back in 2016 on a tour of Ireland as part of a trip with his U14 football team Al Helal.

Muhammad was pictured during his visit to Kilcolman with a hurley and sliotar and he was amazed at the game of hurling, so much so that he asked clubman and photographer Padraig Hogan to take his photo that night with the hurley and ball.

Later the Al Helal team took a photo with the club's minor hurlers showcasing the new gear they received from Burgess GAA on the night.

Speaking about Muhammad on their social media accounts earlier this week, Burgess GAA said, "Twenty-year-old Muhammad was killed yesterday in Gaza alongside 7 other members of his family when an airstrike struck their home at a Nuseirat refugee camp.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Muhammad and his family and all the boys who spent time in Kilcoleman. We pray for peace in Gaza.
"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha."
