A well-known Irish pub and restaurant in Kansas City has permanently closed following the tragic death of its owner, Tipperary man Shaun Brady.

Brady & Fox, the Brookside establishment co-founded by Brady, has ceased operations and is now listed for lease, according to local reports.

Brady, a 44-year-old chef from Nenagh and a prominent member of Kansas City’s Irish community, was fatally shot last August while attempting to prevent a break-in to his car.

Brady was a beloved figure in the community and had annually hosted the Irish breakfast at the KC Irish Fest, where his life was honored after his passing.

Following a temporary closure, the Kansas City Business Journal has confirmed the restaurant will not reopen.

The property, situated at 751 East 63rd Street in Brookside, is now available for lease.

A large ‘Restaurant Space For Lease’ sign has appeared in the front windows on 751 East 63rd Street near Rockhill Road in the heart of Brookside.

The married father of two was targeted outside of his restaurant after he intervened in the robbery of a vehicle from a car park.

He had approached two boys breaking into a car in the car park in the evening hours of August 28, 2024, just two days before the Kansas City Irish Fest, which he took part in annually.

One teen has been charged, while the others have since been dropped, and two juveniles were subsequently charged in connection with his murder.

However, in December, the Jackson County Family Court dropped all charges against one of the two teens arrested after the shooting.

The death of Brady, who is survived by his wife Kate and their two young children, sparked widespread grief and outrage, particularly within the Kansas City Irish community.

A remembrance ceremony for the talented chef who was born in Limerick, but grew up in Nenagh, Co Tipperary, was held at Drexel Hall in Kansas City in September.

The family of Mr Brady later thanked the people of Ireland and the US for their support.
