Spider-man actor Tom Holland has connections to Tipperary revealed in a recent blog post!

Tom Holland’s family ties to Tipperary came into focus recently as his father, Dominic, shared a charming story involving Tom’s Irish grand-aunt, a nun who expressed concern over his career choice as an actor.

Despite the Spider-man actor's worldwide fame and financial success, she wondered if acting was a “real job” and even asked if he might need some money. Her curiosity grew when she learned his fiancée, Zendaya, is also an actress.

Tom’s maternal grandmother, Tess Quigley, hails from near Nenagh. One of 12 siblings, Tess left Ireland in the 1960s to pursue a career in nursing in England, where she married John Holland, a teacher.

Among her siblings, four became nuns, with two—Srs. Christina and Margaret—currently in care homes in Ireland. Dominic and his mother, Tess, visited them during a recent trip, sharing fond memories and family updates.

During their visit, Sr. Margaret had questions about Tom’s life and work, showing a bit of skepticism about acting as a profession.

Her concerns extended to Zendaya, Tom’s partner, as she found it unusual for both to be in the same line of work. Despite her doubts, the family looks back on the conversation with warmth and humor.

Tom, now 28 and worth an estimated €25 million, has come a long way since his early acting days. He recently proposed to Zendaya, whom he met in 2016 on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The couple confirmed their relationship in 2021 and now split their time between Tom’s newly purchased €3 million home near Richmond Park in London and Zendaya’s ranch-style house in Los Angeles.

The Holland family’s connection to Tipperary is deeply cherished. Tom’s grandmother, Tess, and his late grandfather, Bob Frost, have left an enduring legacy.

Bob, who passed away last summer, shared many qualities with Tom, including boundless energy and a knack for creativity.
