Drivers in Tipperary Town can expect relief from the extensive roadworks that have caused traffic disruptions over the past year, as the contractor aims to complete the project by the end of October.
GLAS Civil Engineering Limited was appointed by Tipperary County Council to implement a road pavement rehabilitation project that also includes various safety enhancements.
The project features numerous improvements such as narrowing the carriageway, expanding footpaths with new paving, resurfacing the road, upgrading public lighting, enhancing drainage systems, diverting services, and adding both soft and hard landscaping elements, including upgraded street furniture.
The initiative is jointly funded by Uisce Éireann and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).
Uisce Éireann's contributions are integrated into the overall project contract, eliminating the need for separate advance works. The total value of the project exceeds €6 million.
Planning approval for the scheme was granted by the district council on January 28, 2021, after a period of public display and consultation, in accordance with planning and development regulations.
The project spans approximately 1,250 meters along the N74 through Fr Mathew Street in Tipperary Town, starting at the Bansha roundabout, including a short section of maintenance and resurfacing on the N24, and ending near the 60km/h speed limit zone on the eastern side of the town.
