The Tipperary Divisional Roads Policing Unit conducted checkpoints and patrols across the Thurles District on Sunday. Four arrests were made on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Among those detained was a driver in Templemore who was discovered to be serving a 12-year disqualification. They were charged and are due to appear in court.
Another arrest took place in Thurles Town where a driver failed a roadside alcohol test at a Mandatory Intoxicant Checkpoint. This motorist was also found to be uninsured.
All involved vehicles were seized, and legal proceedings are underway.
Following this initial operation, Gardaí confirmed that four more individuals were arrested, bringing the total to eight in just 48 hours. Samples have been taken for analysis by the Medical Bureau of Road Safety.
Gardaí are continuing to urge drivers across the county to make responsible choices and to consider the serious risks and legal consequences associated with impaired driving.
