A third successive  Duggan Veterinary Mid U19A football title for JK Brackens was achieved with some comfort as they saw off the challenge of the Moyne Templetuohy/Loughmore Castleiney combination by nine points at Templemore last week.

In a contest controlled most of the way by the winners, JK Brackens had a distinct edge but the combo never let them relax even when the contest was beyond redemption. This third title in a row augurs well for the Templemore club into the future as they seek to break the stranglehold that Loughmore-Castleiney have held on adult football matters in the mid division.

The winners set out their stall from the beginning, racing into a four point lead after 10 minutes, but the challengers then enjoyed their best spell, points by Conor Campion, Ben Moor,e and a Richard Morris goal following a great Ben Moore run, bringing them level before Finn Jones pointed them in front (1-3 to 0-5).

That’s as good as it gets for the combo. Jamie Ormond had a Brackens goal after 26 minutes when Cian Broderick’s shot came off the woodwork, and he reacted quickest, and at the break they were 1-7 to 1-5 ahead, Ormond accounting for 1-3 of their tally.

The Moyne-Loughmore combo were still very much in the game, but six minutes after resuming, Brackens hit their second goal, Jack Marnell and Padraic O’Shea combining to set up Dayle Hogan, who applied the finishing touch for a 2-8 to 1-5 lead. Two Finn Jones points from frees for the losers scarcely stemmed the tide as JK Brackens steadily extended their advantage.

Trailing by 1-8 to 2-13 with 10 minutes to go, Richard Morris raised Moyne-Loughmore hopes with 2 sweet points, but Brackens were relentless and finished with white flags from Billy Collier and Cian Broderick for an emphatic win.

The Templemore lads’ attention now turns to the bigger scene as they pursue that elusive county title. They certainly look well-equipped to achieve that goal with quality in all sectors of the field and the confidence of a group used to winning.

They had key performances in this win from Jack Marnell, Jamie Ormond, and Cian Broderick, but Padraic O’Shea, Tommy Burke, and Billy Collier were not far behind in what was a very fine team performance.

No one could fault the Moyne/Loughmore combination for effort, and though out-gunned, they stuck manfully to their task to the finish.

They too had some excellent players, but unfortunately not enough of them to bring about the downfall of this fine Templemore side. Ben Moore was their top performer, his scything runs at the winner's defence a constant problem for them. Richard Morris, Daniel McCahey, Leo Cleere, and Cathal Guilfoyle also put in a big effort.
