REVEALED: Councillors call on Council’s environment team to remove dead horse near M8

Two local councillors have called on Tipperary County Council’s environment team to clear away a dead horse lying in a field next to the slip road onto the M8 motorway at Wallers Lot in Cashel.

A photo showing the lifeless brown horse, surrounded by discarded rubbish, was sent to Cllr Liam Browne and Cllr Michael Brennan.

Cllr Browne shared the image last night, revealing that the horse’s body was first spotted on Monday.

The councillor from Rosegreen is asking horse owners to take care of their animals or find someone who will treat them properly.

Cllr Browne’s post has led to more people asking for better rules to protect animals in Ireland. Cllr Michael Brennan says Tipperary County Council, the Department of Agriculture, and An Garda Siochana have not made sure these rules are followed well enough for a long time.

“It might be asking too much, but when certain people spend a lot of time telling everyone else about how much they love animals, especially how much they love horses, they might think it's a horrible thing to leave a dead horse rotting in a field by the side of the road,” Browne said.

“I was sent this picture this afternoon. It was taken from the slip road onto the M8 motorway, in the Dublin direction.

“I have been informed that the poor animal has lain dead since at least Monday, when it was first spotted. I will be contacting the environmental section of the council tomorrow morning to have it removed.”

“But frankly, for posting this, I am once again probably going to be described as 'racist', ‘anti-certain communities’, ‘ignorant of ethnic culture’, ‘stirring crap looking for votes’, and all the usual bullshit from people who cannot be named.”

“Some of whom cry ‘discrimination’ at every turn.. not the whole community mind, most are grand.”

“But the few who know who you are.. would ye ever have the decency to give ye're horses to someone who will look after them, rather than leave them dying in fields or on the roads.”

“No ethnic minority group was mentioned in this post.”

“Please do not mention any in the comments. I would hate to have anyone accused of the things I'm accused of regularly, by people who wouldn't be accused of anything if they just did what was right by innocent animals”

Cllr Browne’s post has also led to calls for better animal welfare standards in Ireland. Cllr Micheal Brennan says Tipperary County Council, the Department of Agriculture, and An Garda Siochana have not enforced these standards strictly enough for too long.
