County Tipperary Chamber calls for resolution to fuel protest disruption

County Tipperary Chamber is supporting the call from Chambers Ireland for an immediate de-escalation of fuel protests currently causing disruption to transport networks and supply chains across the country and impacting businesses across Tipperary.

Businesses locally are already reporting concerns regarding delivery delays, staff commuting challenges and uncertainty around fuel availability. Continued disruption to national fuel distribution networks risks placing additional strain on SMEs, employers and regional supply chains, particularly for rural and transport-dependent businesses already managing rising operating costs.

While recent fuel price increases continue to affect energy-intensive sectors, small businesses and households, blockades impacting key transport routes and fuel depots are compounding these pressures rather than resolving them.

County Tipperary Chamber is encouraging constructive engagement between all parties and the relevant authorities to bring the situation to a resolution as quickly as possible.

Michelle Aylward, CEO of County Tipperary Chamber, said: “We are hearing directly from our members across Tipperary that the current disruption is creating real operational challenges. Our regional economy depends on the reliable movement of goods, services and workers, and prolonged uncertainty affects business confidence and day-to-day trading activity.

"We recognise the pressures arising from rising fuel costs, particularly for transport-dependent and rural businesses, but disruption to national distribution networks is not sustainable and risks further unintended consequences for local employers and communities.

"Constructive dialogue is the most effective way forward. It is important that solutions are found that support businesses, protect livelihoods and maintain economic stability across regions like Tipperary.”
