Some of the singers and musicians who took part in the concert with Fr Liam Lawton
There was a very festive feel around Templemore last weekend with the Christmas lights switched on Friday evening followed by a magnificent Christmas concert on Sunday evening.
The Sacred Heart was packed to capacity as the Parish Folk Group welcomed Fr Liam Lawton and guests for a charity concert in aid of a charity very close to their hearts, the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association of Ireland.
In a magical setting the Church was beautifully decorated with Christmas candles and trees which created a beautiful festive setting for a wonderful concert. From the outset the crowd were entertained by the parish folk group, who opened the night with a wonderful rendition of A Winter’s Tale and A Little Bit of Heaven Everywhere.
They were then treated to the musicians of the folk group who got feet tapping with traditional music selections.
Cillian Roche and Sarah McAuliffe entertained with such ease and Gillian Fogarty brought the local representation to a close with a fabulous performance of Maybe on the piano.
Liam Lawton treated us to traditional Christmas songs along with a medley of well-known and much loved carols which saw the entire congregation erupt into song.
The audience were also treated to a spectacular performance from a young and upcoming soprano Leah Barniville, whose trained voice created a wonderful sense of festive feel as she performed well known numbers such as Walking in the Air, The Christmas Song, and the ultimate classic, O Holy Night.
A special mention must go to Marie Sheedy who performed on violin for one of Liam Lawton’s classics, The Voice of an Angel, which made the night very special.
Congratulations to all who were involved in the organisation of the night.
It was a huge community event from start to finish that got everyone into the Christmas spirit while raising much needed funds for the Irish Motor Neurone Association of Ireland
