The accident took place near Cnoc Fola on the outskirts of Bunbeg
A man has been killed in a workplace accident following an “apparent explosion“ in west Donegal this afternoon.
The accident is understood to have happened in the vicinity of Cnoc Fola, near Bunbeg, with the man who lost his life understood to be operating a digger at the time. His identity has not been released as yet.
Gardaí and emergency services are at the scene.
“Gardaí are currently at the scene of an explosion at a location on the outskirts of Bunbeg," reads a Garda statement. "An Garda Síochána has evacuated the surrounding area and the Irish Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal has been requested.
"The road is currently closed and local diversions are in place. The Health and Safety Authority have been notified. National Ambulance Service and Donegal Fire Brigade are also in attendance at the scene of the incident. An Garda Síochána is not in a position to confirm any casualties at this time. No further information is available at this time. Updates will be provided when appropriate."
