Police are investigating a report that a woman was dragged by her hair from her car during a hijacking in Belfast.
A young child was in the car during the incident in the Markets area of south Belfast on Friday.
A man reportedly flagged down a woman driving a cream Renault Captur with a black roof on Stewart Street, indicating that she had an issue with her car.
When the driver pulled over to check, she was dragged by her hair from the vehicle by the man.
She and her child were ordered to get out of the car before the man drove off in the direction of the Ormeau Road.
The car was found on fire a short time later at nearby Raphael Street.
The man has been described as being about 5ft 6ins tall, of stocky build and was wearing a dark hooded top with the hood up, black trousers and white trainers.
Detective Sergeant David Kitchen said it had been a terrifying experience for the woman and her passengers.
“We have been conducting inquiries in the area and would appeal to anyone with any information or who captured dash-cam footage which could be of assistance to our investigation to contact detectives in Musgrave on 101, quoting reference number 870 09/06/23,” he said.
“A report can be submitted online using our non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/ or you can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at http://crimestoppers-uk.org/.”
