Retailer recalls dozens of speakers popular with Irish consumers due to risk of fire

A retailer is recalling dozens of speakers popular with Irish consumers due to a major safety concern. 

According to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), Bose Products B.V is carrying out a recall to repair on their Acoustimass, Lifestyle and Companion home theatre audio systems.  

A thermal event can reportedly occur inside of the units, leading to the bass module catching fire. 

The affected models include: 

  • Acoustimass® 5 Series Iv Powered Speaker System 
  • Acoustimass® 6 Iii Home Ent. System
  • Acoustimass® 10 Iii Home Ent. System, Acoustimass® 15 Home Theater Speaker System
  • Acoustimass® 15 Ii Home Ent. System
  • Acoustimass® 16 Home Ent. System 
  • Acoustimass® 20 Powered Speaker System 
  • Companion™ Cs-6 Powered Speaker System 
  • Lifestyle® 5 Series Ii Powered Speaker System 
  • Lifestyle® 8 Powered Speaker System
  • Lifestyle® 12 Powered Speaker System 
  • Lifestyle® 20 Powered Speaker System 
  • Lifestyle® 25 Powered Speaker System 
  • Lifestyle® 30 Powered Speaker System
  • Lifestyle® 50 Powered Speaker System

There are approximately 1064 affected products in the Republic of Ireland. 

Consumers are asked to unplug and cease using the affected products and return them to Bose or an authorized service centre in exchange for a free repair or a 40% discount on a replacement product or, if repair is not available in your location, a free replacement product.
